Entreprise Monégasque de Travaux Recognized for its Environmental Commitment

Winner of the "Sustainable Development" Trophy, Entreprise Monégasque de Travaux, headed by Éric Humilier, was recognized at the Club Eco Monaco Awards for its innovations paving the way for more responsible construction in the Principality.

1. Can you introduce your company and explain how sustainable development is integrated into your projects and your DNA?

EMT is a manufacturer that has been producing and delivering ready-mixed concrete to construction sites in the Principality for over 50 years. We place sustainable development at the heart of our decisions and strive to reduce our impact on the environment year after year.

Using industrial by-products to replace cement in concrete production and completely abandoning fossil fuels for its truck fleet in favor of synthetic fuels made from waste have enabled EMT to reduce its carbon footprint by more than 80,000 tons since 2010.

2. What does this "Sustainable Development" award mean to you, and how does it reflect the values of your team and your company in Monaco?

The "Sustainable Development" award highlights the values, commitment, and innovative spirit of the company and my team. At every stage of our industrial process, we strive to experiment with new techniques and implement best practices to limit our impact on the environment (resource, water, and energy management, etc.).

Our goal is to be a virtuous partner of Monegasque companies in the construction sector.

3. What are the main challenges you've encountered in making your activities more sustainable, and how does Monaco support your environmental initiatives?

The main challenge is regulatory. The construction sector, and building materials in particular, are subject to very strict standards. To innovate and deviate from these standards, we need to bring expertise, conduct trials, and prove the validity of our choices.

Monaco supported us when we wanted to introduce larger-capacity mixer trucks to reduce the number of vehicles driving in the Principality. The highway code was adapted, and the project came to fruition from the start of the MARETERRA project, allowing us to transport an equivalent quantity of concrete with 33% fewer vehicles.
