Monaco holds Pele's footprints for eternity

King" Pele has often trodden on Princes' land and, each time, left the footprint of a great lord. He left his footprints on the Promenade des Champions alongside those of Maradona, Eusébio, Zidane, Cristiano Ronaldo... Flashback.

Crowned King of football on the evening of 21 June 1970, when he lifted his third World Cup in Mexico City's monumental Aztec Stadium, Pele became an apostle of the game for the rest of his life, until he joins Maradona, Cruyff, Best and other footballing Avengers on Thursday 29 December 2022 at FC Paradis.

Like a rock star, he will have travelled the world and dropped anchor several times in the Principality of Monaco. While the world agrees that his imprint is indelible, few countries can claim to have the cast of the ten most prolific toes in the history of football for ever.

Such is the case in Monaco, where Edson Arantes do Nascimento's footprints rest forever on the Promenade des Champions, at the foot of the Terrasses du Casino de Monte-Carlo.
