Faced with angry national councillors, the Minister of State conceded on Monday that the demolition-reconstruction project needed to be reassessed, particularly for budgetary reasons.
Shocked", "perplexed", "stunned", "dumbfounded", "an injustice", "a catastrophe"... Yesterday in the Hemicycle of the National Council, during the second public session dedicated to the Amending Budget 2023, elected representatives took it in turns to express their feelings after learning that the dossier for the demolition-reconstruction of the Fontvieille shopping centre would not be identical to the one initially presented by the company Socri Reim.
In other words, a €300 million project to replace an ageing building inaugurated in 1992, with the creation of a 2-hectare park, 30,000m² of retail space, a 4-screen multiplex cinema, a building with 40 public housing units and, last but not least, increased parking capacity.
"You're talking about renovation. Are we going to economise?
A vague statement that left room for interpretation. "Brigitte Boccone-Pagès, President of the National Council, was taken aback when she said: "Apparently, we're going to drop everything? "You're talking about renovation. Are we going to economise? We just don't get it any more", complained Corinne Bertani, who is a frequent speaker on this issue at public meetings.
