The sales in the Principality come to an end this Saturday.
Retailers, both independent and franchised, are drawing mixed reviews. Many would like to see more communication.
While the sales ended on 1 August in France, they are only coming to an end this Saturday evening in Monaco. Eleven extra days for the Principality. But does this extra time benefit retailers? Many professionals interviewed on Wednesday, four days before the end of the sales, were tempted to say no.
Plenty of tourists
While the streets of Monaco are crowded and the tourist sites popular, the shops are not necessarily very busy. In the Rue Grimaldi, whether you're a jeweller or the head of a men's or women's clothing shop, or even a shoe shop, the people in charge of the shops confirm that tourists in Monaco don't come to shop. "And even less to spend a lot. We clearly feel that the purchasing power is no longer the same. Tourists aren't as wealthy as they used to be," says a jewellery retailer on Rue Grimaldi.
