In the coming years, the over-60s will represent a major component of Monaco's population.

How can we encourage their autonomy? This is the mission of Monaco's gerontological coordination centre.

Between 2025 and 2050, the senior population will explode. In Monaco, as elsewhere, the post-war baby boom will give way to the baby boom and the age pyramid will be reversed. Some observers even speak of "geronto-growth".
When you consider that 75 is the average age at which people become dependent, you can see that the issue of caring for the elderly is essential," explains Philippe Migliasso, administrator of the Centre de Coordination Gérontologique de Monaco.

It is also essential in the face of the scourge of neurodegenerative diseases, which are expected to double in the coming years, particularly Alzheimer's disease, which is the most common. In the face of this, the more we anticipate, the more we act on all the intrinsic factors, the less the risk of tipping.

This is the role of the CCGM, created in 2006, which this health executive coordinates alongside a multidisciplinary team consisting of a geriatrician, Dr Pascale Porasso, nurses and social workers.
