The Prince of Monaco's Carabinieri's summer outfit is deciphered

In mid-May, the Carabinieri swap their winter outfit for their summer outfit. The bright white outfit is better suited to the summer heat of Monaco.

The white helmet we know today appeared in 1898. It is adorned with a chinstrap held by lions, which is not worn on the chin in the summer.

The front of the helmet also has a red and white roundel, in the colours of Monaco.

And in the centre of the helmet is the monogram, the two intertwined letters of the first name of the reigning Prince. This tradition dates back to the reign of Prince Charles III.

On the top of the helmet is the ferrule - a small metal part - which can be unscrewed to put the ceremonial plume on during major events.
