Grounded in the port of Fontvieille in Monaco, the "Vieux Crabe" has not yet been pulled out of the water

Grounded on Sunday night, the "Vieux Crabe" is still lying at a depth of 7 metres in the port of Fontvieille. Only a small piece of one of her two masts is sticking out of the water.

An operation more delicate than expected:

Yesterday, the situation still did not allow the carcass to be taken out of the water. The reason for this was the size of the boat, which made the operation more delicate than expected, and the delay related to insurance issues.

However, divers intervened in order to completely empty the tanks of their fuel, as confirmed by the harbour master's office. The aim is to avoid any further pollution in the event of an incident when the ship is refloated.

Classified as a boat of heritage interest by the Patrimoine Maritime et Fluvial in 2016, the "Vieux Crabe" was built in 1952 at the Joseph Keraudren shipyard in Camaret.

The tuna boat made a remarkable arrival in the port of Fontvieille in 2019. She was blessed by Monsignor Bernard Barsi, then Archbishop of Monaco.
