
The driver has been remanded in custody. He was drunk at the time of the incident.
This Tuesday, the Monaco public prosecutor's office released more information on the fatal accident that occurred on Saturday evening in the IM2S tunnel on Boulevard du Larvotto. The driver, who hit the driver of a two-wheeler, was placed in provisional detention. He was drunk at the time of the incident.
A traffic accident on Saturday shortly before 11pm involved a Mercedes SUV and a 500cc scooter on Larvotto Boulevard at the exit of the IM2S tunnel, on the side of the Place Sainte-Dévote bridge.
More is known about the circumstances. "The driver of the two-wheeler, who was riding in his own lane, was hit by the Mercedes vehicle which had crossed the continuous line and moved into the opposite lane, driving against the direction of travel", the Monaco public prosecutor's office said at midday today.
The emergency services were unable to save the scooter driver, who was pronounced dead at the scene. He was 54 years old, married and had two children. A porter at the Monte-Carlo Bay Hotel, he had just finished his shift and was heading for Cap-d'Ail where he lived.
