The pruning and harvesting of sour orange trees has begun in Monaco

Every year in January, the Principality's gardeners start pruning the big orange trees that grace the streets of the Principality. The public can pick the fruit free of charge.

It's a tradition. The month of January is synonymous with periwinkle trees in the Principality!
As they do every year, gardeners from the DAU (Direction de l'Aménagement urbain - Department of Urban Development) set out to harvest the bitter oranges from these fruit trees that line the streets of Monaco.

Until 10 February

Agents will be pruning tree by tree, district by district, 580 of the Principality's 1,011 citrus trees (oranges, lemons, clementines, etc.) that have not been treated (December 2023 census).
The work began today on the Avenue de Grande Bretagne in Monte-Carlo and will continue until February.
