A colossal project in the Principality which records some 820 palm trees

As every year, for more than ten years, the hunt for palm "pests" will begin. A colossal project in the Principality which records some 820 palm trees on its public land, and counts around forty species.

A new vaccination campaign will begin, that of palm trees attacked each year by this parasite. Preventive treatments, by sensors or repellents, the countdown is on.

To name them, the red weevil, responding to the sweet Latin name of Rhynchophorus ferrugineus, and the palm butterfly represent real threats to these exotic plants. This year, the first interventions will begin on Monday March 8, in the Fontvieille districts.

In Monaco, the Urban Planning Department acts in concert with the Riviera Gardens network. Robert Castellana is the initiator. "It had become essential to set up a network for the exchange of experiences and coordinated struggle," he explains.
