Monaco celebrates 30 years of UN membership
In New York, the Sovereign took to the podium of the United Nations to reiterate that the Principality intends to remain "a reliable partner in the service of our common humanity".
On 28 May 1993, Monaco became the 183rd member state of the United Nations. A major recognition for one of the world's smallest countries, admitted to the most prestigious of international organisations.
Three decades later, Prince Albert II is in New York to celebrate this anniversary, which coincides with the commemoration of the centenary of the birth of Prince Rainier III. As he took the podium on Monday evening, the sovereign quoted his father, who had expressed his delight at the accession of Prince Rainier III in 1993, saying that "this day will clearly remain an important date in the already long history of our country, because it is the certainty of its future".
